What is Worldschooling?

Worldschooling is a fairly new term for an educational movement that has been happening this century. It stems from the recognition that a person can receive their greatest education out in the world: by experiencing and interacting with the world around us. For families so inclined, this usually involves traveling together and using exploration to enhance their child(ren)’s education.

While every worldschooling family is unique, some of the values they share include:

  • A desire to travel

  • A wish to introduce their child(ren) to the world around them

  • A holistic approach to learning

  • A preference for experiential learning

  • A need for flexibility in developing children’s skills and talents that traditional schooling cannot provide

  • A desire to understand cultural differences and become sensitive to other world-views
